What…? It’s February?

I haven’t posted anything since December or maybe even November before the holiday season! I’m a lame ass blogger. I’ve had lots on my mind I guess I never found the time to write about it. Not that anyone actually cares what I have to say but here I go anyway.

Christmas was awesome. Tessa had so many presents from friends and family I literally didn’t get her any thing. I honestly just don’t have enough room in my house for all the stuff! Tessa was here for the weekend after Christmas and every morning was like a holiday. We would run upstairs, play with the wrapping paper and forget all about the actual presents! Nothing like coffee, pancakes, eggnog, and good music to watch the mini version of yourself have a grand ole time with some of the simplest things in life.

New years eve was another grand time! My room mate Eric took me up to Jamestown and we partied hard. I was trying to pick up this woman who was in her late 30’s.. She wasn’t the closest one to my age. Apparently, it was pretty hysterical according to Eric.

January was another story. Coach Angie has me working HARD. As I sit and write this I can’t remember the last time something on my body wasn’t sore. I started doing yoga which has been a huge boost in my flexibility and ability to recover. The strength training has me a bit heavier than I’d like to be but by the time the racing starts I will be as lean as humanly possible while still maintaining good health.

Work is work. On my feet a bunch. All the days just kind of blur together… If it wasn’t for little Tessa Faye I probably wouldn’t know what day it is right now. Just the kind of workout I have to do and the shift i need to pull at work. I will say that the stress with the babies mama has lowered. For now, we seem to actually be getting along. We both agreed that it’s much better for us to work together than to be fighting all the time. For Tessa’s earliest part of her life I think the drama hit a climax and I pray to God that we don’t hit a second climax. That kind of nonsense just wares on your soul.

All in all I think life is pretty good. Practice crits and college crits start in March. So I have 4 weeks to get my shit together. I’m going to try and be a better blogger! I have a new twitter account too… www.twitter.com/aaronwhalen. Follow me, I seem to update that more often anyway.

God bless.

Getting Stronger

I'm at about 15-20 hours a week right now with training. That, including the 3 days I have little T and the fact that I still need to work a full time job to help pay for it all, really keep me busy.

The training is hard. After certain efforts I literally have to drag myself back to my feet. I’ll rest for 2 minutes than I do it again. The work is paying off though because even from week 3 to week 1 I can tell that I'm gaining strength. I've never been short on motivation. My brain is weird like that... I could pull motivation out of dust particles. So I never have any trouble getting up for the occasion. The training is very specific but different on a daily basis. I probably look like a huge dork carrying a little folder around with me at 24 hour fitness going from station to station. I need it though!

I'm not looking forward to hours and hours on the trainer. Dreaming through the 2x2ft garage windows watching the snow fall or the freezing temperatures take over the sky isn't as much fun as it sounds. Sweating, rapid motion, but not going anywhere allows you to pay attention to every second that slowly goes by. I make it sound horrible, I know. But honestly, it's all worth it! Getting onto dry roads with some fitness in my legs makes for some of the most beautiful, comfortable rides I can remember. There is nothing that compares to a 60 degree, January day in Colorado, while you're on your bike. Haha, yes… It happens more than most know.

We're coming into the holiday season again… Here’s to hoping nobody has to spend it alone. Until next time… God bless.

Finally, Got Myself a Blog

I wonder how many people's first post on their blog is "got one" or "got a new one." My guess is 98%. Ha, so here is my first post. GOT A BLOG EVERYONE.

I'm excited to keep an online journal. It's much easier to access from anywhere and is much more unlikely to get stolen. (yes, I had a journal stolen from me back in 06') However, like when I used to write all the time... I'm going to try and be as honest as possible. As a warning to all friends and family, this blog is going to be uncensored, honest, and straight from my heart. I'll try and keep you posted on things dealing with little Tessa Faye. I'll also be writing about cycling, training, crazy rides I've gone on, and racing. Those two things and the crazy stories that just seem to revolve around my life anyway... I'll do my best to keep you entertained and returning to this blog site.

I'm not really sure what this will accomplish but, like sticking around to be a father for Tessa (Thanks Jay and Uncle Mark!), it just seemed like a good idea. I'm not sure what my real first post will be about... but i'll be updating this thing regularly.

For now, God bless.
